"Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits." - Samuel Butler
How is it September already? As much as we hate to say it, that means summer is drawing to a close, despite the gorgeous sunshine we’ve been having the last few weeks. Great excuse to get those gins out, though!
Luckily, gin can be enjoyed all year round, (we can vouch for that!) and needs no excuse. Summer has been great fun and we’ve been present at lots of different events. Great Gatsby themed evenings, exhibiting at wedding shows, working at beautiful weddings, both indoor and outdoor and meeting fantastic people along the way. We have started building our very own lemonade stand themed bar and some lovely rustic gin ladders for décor hire. Also, our gorgeous boy Teddy turned two years old earlier this month! He’s growing up too fast!
Autumn will be creeping in very soon, but that doesn’t mean there is no more wedding fun to be had! We love autumn weddings and we are certainly ready for them. There are so many things you can draw inspiration from for an autumn wedding. The vibrant colours of leaves falling off the trees, colours that can be used in your florals and décor. Conkers and pinecones are great inspiration for favours and table décor. Then there is Halloween just around the corner and there are plenty of details you can incorporate into your wedding from just that if that’s what you’re into! Remember, the nights are drawing in earlier and earlier, chilly air will be creeping in with the smell of bonfires, and let’s not forget fireworks! So much fun for an autumn wedding!
So, onto the exciting part – gin! We have some brilliant ideas for autumn-inspired gin drinks for your wedding or party, along with our classic G & T’s of course! As it’s later in the year, there are a lot of gorgeous fruits that are in season and we say, let’s take advantage of that!
Sloe Gin
Sloe berries (or Blackthorn) look a little bit like blueberries and are best picked in the autumn months. They have a very sharp flavour, and though they are not poisonous when eaten raw, they work best in things like gins and jams. We love a Sloe Gin, mixed with lemon tonic and garnished with orange and blueberries. Refreshing and delicious!
Apples
Even though they can be seen all year round, apples are a distinctly autumnal fruit. What better way to enjoy them than with a yummy gin combo? Try our favourite Nibbs gin with cloudy apple juice, lemonade, mint and a dash of lime!
Mulled Gin
You’ve heard of mulled wine. Have you tried mulled gin? We recommend mixing a generous serving of sloe gin with some hot, cloudy apple with beautiful slices of orange. Spice it up with a dusting of cinnamon and you have yourself a right warming treat for a cosy outdoor wedding reception, watching the fireworks!
Brockmans Autumn Reviver
We do love our local gins and we thoroughly recommend this little number for those of you wanting a bit more of a kick to go with your autumn spice! Combine a generous serving of Brockmans gin, a splash of Lillet Blanc, (a wine-based fruity aperitif), a dash of Cointreau with some fresh lemon juice and ginger syrup, and you have a delicious citrusy little number. You can find the full recipe at https://www.brockmansgin.com/2017/08/31/4-gin-cocktails-for-autumn/.
Hope you enjoyed our suggestions for a little taste of autumn. Did you know you can book a gin evening with us? If you’re having a cosy get together at home and want something a bit different, give us a shout! Awesome gins in the comfort of your own home with your friends.
Anyway, see you soon!
